Grounding is important for everyone, but it particularly matters when you make the choice to work with your psychic abilities, and it can make you feel a whole lot better all the time. It’s a way to balance the physical and spiritual energies in your body and connect with the Earth so you feel more focused and present in the moment. Being grounded means your thoughts aren’t flying off every which way, and you won’t be adversely affected by the energy of others and what’s happening around you. Grounding helps stop you from overthinking, and you become more aligned with your feelings, which also helps boost your intuition.
I like to ground myself every day, as soon as I wake and before I do anything else. Make grounding part of your morning routine, like taking a shower and brushing your teeth, and you will be in the best frame of mind to start the day.

This is a simple exercise, and a gentle introduction to visualisation. Some people find it difficult to visualise, and starting with a simple exercise like this can help you get used to the technique. Once you can master visualisation, you begin to master your energy!
- Sit in a comfortable chair, with your feet on the floor and your back straight. It’s important for your feet to be in contact with the ground, and if you can do this exercise outside, with your bare feet on grass, sand or earth, or even wood or tiles, it’s even better.

- Imagine the soles of your feet are producing roots, extending deeper and deeper into Mother Earth. You may feel a pulling sensation as the roots extend down. This is good, don’t fight it. Send those roots further and further down, until they reach a huge crystal in the centre of the Earth. The crystal can be anything you want it to be, but clear quartz is good, as this is the master healer. However, you may want to imagine rose quartz, amethyst or jade if you need to work on your self-esteem, or if you could use some calming or healing energy.
- Now see your roots entwine around the crystal, anchoring you to the Earth, emphasising your natural connection to the Universe and everything in it.
- Send any stress or negativity you may be holding onto down the roots into Mother Earth so it can be cleansed and transmuted. See it as dark coloured water, say grey, dark red or dark green, flushing out of your bodyinto the Earth.
- Now imagine the crystal sending pure white healing light up through the roots and into your body. Feel that lightness entering through the soles of your feet and filling you, right to the top of your head and down your arms to the tips of your fingers.
- Take a few moments to relax, then slowly retract the roots from around the crystal, and see them travel up through the Earth to your feet. At this point, you may feel the soles of your feet relax their grip.
- Take a few deep breaths and open your eyes. Have a drink of water. You are now fully grounded and ready to start your day!


While it’s a good idea to do this first thing in the morning, you can do it at any time, and you can even do a quick stand-up version if you are feeling anxious while you are out and about. It works better when you can give more time to it, but if you need a quick boost at any time, just close your eyes, send down those roots, then flush out the stress and bring up the light.
